Local group helps plant trees across Milton Keynes
The Parks Trust has been working in partnership with Community Trees: MK on various tree planting projects in the parks and green spaces we manage across the city.
Community Trees: MK (CTMK) has a very simple initial mission – to enable communities to plant at least 1,000 trees each year for ten years across MK. CTMK wants to make Milton Keynes even more beautiful, enhance biodiversity and to help people tackle the climate emergency.
The 2020/21 planting season was due to Covid-19 which led to CTMK’s community tree-planting days being postponed and then cancelled. However, to ensure the saplings were not lost, The Parks Trust worked in partnership with the group to plant 1,700 trees at two sites; planting on the road verge alongside Brickhill Street at Oakgrove; and at Middleton Wood Meadow.
Now the on-going partnership has ambitious plans for the 2021/22 planting season. The group will continue to work with our Outdoor Learning Team to plant trees with Milton Keynes schools, and local people can help too at their upcoming weekend tree planting events.
They will be running community planting days at Middleton Wood Meadow in February 2022 (with trees provided by the International Tree Foundation). If you are interested to join in please check out their Facebook Page to book on, but hurry as spaces are filling fast!
There is another project at Fairfields on 12th February (with trees provided by Cross Keys Homes), and plans for planting in New Bradwell and more woodland at Middleton Wood Meadow in 2022/23.
