Rivers and Flood Defences

In the Rivers and Flood Defences Geography session students take part in games and activities to demonstrate the formation of a river and the key features found along the stretch of river that you choose to explore. Depending on the site, this can include identifying examples of erosion, deposition, obstacles and flood prevention features. Students can conduct experiments to measure river flow rate, turbidity, depth and pH and discuss the factors affecting these. Students will use the information from the session to draw a cross sectional diagram of the river bed. Suitable for Key stage 3 and 4. Please let us know at the time of booking if you have a specific learning objective or focus for this session so that we can ensure the chosen site has suitable features.

How does this session link to the National Curriculum?
