Geology Rocks (KS2)

Geology Rocks - Media Banner Image.jpg

What creatures roamed Milton Keynes in the Jurassic era? Your group will take a journey through time and space to discover the prehistoric story of our new town.

Get up close and personal with some ancient remains discovered right here in MK in this Geology Rocks session catered for Key Stage 2. We will also look at how rocks and landscapes are formed and how to identify those on our doorstep.

Please note that this session is location specific based on the availability to good natural resources. Some of our best recommended sites include Stonepit Field, Caldecotte Lake, Floodplain Forest, Willen North and Great Linford Manor Park.

How does this session link to the National Curriculum? (Key Stage 2)
  • Compare and group together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties.
  • Describe in simple terms how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock.
  • Recognise that soils are made from rocks and organic matter.
  • Recognise that living things have changed over time and that fossils provide information about living things that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago.
